Cafe lights and cocktails best sum up summers in the South. And there is nothing quite like it. When my husband, Tyler, brought home watermelon moonshine after a trip to the groceries, we were excited to see what summer drinks we could stir up.
The older I get, the less summer is for adventure and the more it is for relaxing and spending time with loved ones. We wanted to make a cocktail that embodies exactly that: sitting on the patio with friends, some chips and queso, and laughing over telephone pictionary. A watermelon lemonade cocktail was born. A lovely lemonade that carries the summer flavors of watermelon, of course with a kick of moonshine.
To make your own, follow the recipe below:
Watermelon Lemonade Cocktail
4 lemons, sliced, for garnish
2 cups lemon juice
2 cups sugar
1 gallon water
1 cup hot water
4 cups cubed watermelon
2 cups watermelon moonshine
6 lemon thyme sprigs for garnish
Take cup of hot water and add sugar until all of the sugar is dissolved. Add lemon juice to the cold water. Place the watermelon cubes into a mason jar and pour sugar water and moonshine over the watermelon cubes. Shake the jar until the watermelon has blended with the sugar water. Pour mixture into the cold water/lemon mixture. Pour cocktail over ice and garnish with a lemon wedge and lemon thyme sprig.
